History of Reiki

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a healing technique that is thousands of years old.  It was originally practiced by Tibetan monks.  In the late 1800's, Dr. Mikao Usui began to look at those around him and saw so many people who were unable to lead happy, productive lives due to their frequent illnesses and physical disabilities.  He began his search for an alternate way to heal the sick. After many years of searching, he discovered an ancient healing technique in the Indian Sutras (textbooks).  Reiki began to flourish in the East and was slowly introduced into the West.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle laying on of hands healing technique.  The word REI can be interpreted as Universal, but a much deeper meaning is spiritual consciousness - the wisdom that comes from God or the Higher Self.  KI is the Life Force.  As long as something is alive it has life force in and around it.  It is the energy behind our emotions, thoughts, and spiritual life. REI + KI = spiritually guided life force energy.

Reiki has its own intelligence and knows exactly where to go and what to do.  It is guided by our Higher Self, and it can never do us harm.  Life force flows within the body in pathways called Chakras and around the body in the Aura.  These Chakras are energy centers within the body. They generate life energy for the body, mind, and spirit.

When in balance, they promote harmony, serenity, and relaxation.  Reiki can be used to heal virtually every known illness.

The treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance for both the client and the practitioner.  In a typical Reiki session the client lies fully clothed on a comfortable surface.  The practitioner gently places his/her hands on specific areas of the body.  Warm sensations and a secure feeling allow the client to reach a state of deep relaxation.  The healing is always directed by the universal life force energy, therefore, Reiki can never harm and is always for the good.  Reiki is not considered a substitute for medical care or medication.

Reiki is the energy medicine of the future that is grounded in the past.
